Overview
Illinois has a limited air quality program for the Chicago metro managed by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and IEPA. Wood-burning restrictions in Chicago are primarily through city ordinance rather than an episodic curtailment program. Downstate Illinois has no curtailment program. Building permits for permanent fire features are required statewide at the local level.
