Overview

San Diego homeowners face SCAQMD's neighbor district — the San Diego Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) — for wood-burning curtailment. San Diego generally has fewer curtailment days than LA or the Bay Area due to its coastal air patterns, but they do occur. The city has a large number of HOA-governed communities, particularly in north county and the newer inland developments.

Building Permits

City of San Diego Development Services — 619-446-5000, sandiego.gov/development-services. Online permitting available. San Diego County Planning and Development Services for unincorporated areas. Permanent fire features require permits; portable features do not. Gas work requires a licensed C-36 or B contractor.

SDAPCD Check Before You Burn

Check sdapcd.org or call 858-586-2650 for curtailment status November through February. Sign up for email alerts at SDAPCD website. Violations subject to fines.
